As on all of my courses, clients will learn at their own pace and I pride myself on my ability to ensure that everyone always goes away happy, having learnt more than they expected.
Classic Walks Maybe you just want to go out with family or friends and enjoy a stress free guided walk around your chosen objectives in the hills, in the knowledge that you'll be in the expert hands of an experienced Mountain Instructor.
I often include some discussion on natural history, flora, fauna, geology and mythical legends that we encounter en route, just to keep up the kids' interest!
Navigation Re-entrants, Ring Contours, Aiming Off, Hand Railing, Timing and Pacing...... Do these terms strike fear into you in the same way as looking at a map or holding a compass the right way up does? If so, fear not! With some simple practical help, the freedom of the hills could be yours. Learn some expert navigation techniques to ensure you never get lost again and even help ensure you always make it back down in time for last orders!
Typically navigation courses are best run over a weekend or longer to help ensure sufficient time is available to cover the necessary theory and put it into practice
GPS for Beginners The GPS is a very useful tool when used correctly and having already had some experience of using a map and compass. Why not make a weekend of it and spend the first day brushing up on basic navigation and the second perfecting the use of your GPS?
Advanced Hill Walking and Expedition Skills These skills are typically something I would cover over a week, or series of weekends, but it would be just as easy to have a single day spent on any of the individual subjects. Topics include: Route Choice and Navigation, Safety on Steep Ground and Use of a Rope in Emergencies, Expedition Skills and Overnight Wild Camping. |
